Subscription Terms for Roosta
These Subscription Terms supplement the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for Roosta. They govern the auto-renewing subscription that gives access to the Application. By subscribing You agree to these terms in addition to Our general Terms of Service; where the two conflict on a question of purchase, these Subscription Terms prevail.
1. What You Are Subscribing To
Roosta is a subscription app with no free tier. The Application is free to download, but it does nothing until You subscribe: no alarm can be set, no Mission can be run, and no Streak can be built without an active subscription. There is no free version, no limited mode, and no one-time purchase.
Which store You bought from decides who bills You. Roosta is sold through the Apple App Store on iPhone and through Google Play on Android. The Store You bought from is the merchant of record: it takes the payment, it holds the subscription, it runs the renewal, and it decides refunds. We never do any of those things on either platform.
This document names Apple throughout, because that is where Roosta was first sold. If You bought on Android, read every reference to Apple, the App Store, or Your Apple Account as Google, Google Play, and Your Google Account — the arrangement is the same and the rights are the same. Where the two genuinely differ, the difference is spelled out rather than left to that rule.
The subscription is called Roosta and it is sold on two plans, each of which renews automatically:
- Weekly — one week of access per period, renewing every week.
- Yearly — twelve months of access per period, renewing every year, offered with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
There is a third product, and You will only ever see it if You turn the first two down. If You decline, Roosta offers a discounted yearly plan once — a lower price for the same twelve months, which then renews every year at that lower price. It is a separate product genuinely sold at that price, not a discount drawn over the standard one, so where the two are shown side by side both figures are prices that are really charged. It carries no free trial: the trial belongs to the standard yearly plan. Declining it once means it is gone, and the standard plans above remain available.
Every plan gives the same thing: the whole of the Application. Every Mission, unlimited alarms, the complete wake-up history, every alarm sound, bedtime reminders, the mascot and its tiers, and — on Apple devices, which are the only ones that have them — the optional night-time app blocking and the optional app-deletion guard. There is no feature reserved for one plan over another; the difference is only how often You are billed, and how much.
The price of each plan, the length of each period, and any trial or introductory offer are shown in the Application, in Your local currency, before You confirm. That screen is the offer, and it governs what You are buying. It is also shown on the Application's store listing.
2. The Free Trial
A free trial of 7 days is offered on the yearly plan to new subscribers. The weekly plan has no trial, and neither does the discounted yearly plan described above. Eligibility is determined by the Store rather than by Us — generally once per Apple Account and once per Family Sharing group on Apple, and once per Google Account on Google Play; if You have had the trial before, the Application will offer the plan without it and will say so on the purchase screen.
- During the trial You have complete access to the Application, exactly as a paying subscriber does.
- The trial converts into a paid yearly subscription automatically. Unless You cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, Your Apple Account is charged the yearly price and the subscription begins renewing every year.
- You may cancel at any point during the trial and keep access until the trial's last day. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing.
- Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if You purchase a subscription before the trial ends — for example by switching to the weekly plan mid-trial. The remaining free days are not carried over or refunded.
Two reminders are possible, and You should rely on neither. Apple sends its own before a trial converts. Roosta will also schedule one two days before the trial ends, if You have allowed it to send notifications — it is composed and delivered on Your Device like the bedtime reminders, and if You have refused notifications the Application does not promise it. If You are trying Roosta and are not sure, cancel now: cancelling does not end Your access early, it simply stops the renewal, and You keep every day You are entitled to.
3. Billing and Automatic Renewal
This is the part worth reading twice.
- Payment is charged to Your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase, or at the end of a free trial if You took one.
- The subscription renews automatically at the then-current price for the plan You chose, and goes on renewing until You cancel.
- It renews unless You turn auto-renewal off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends. The cost of each renewal is the price of Your plan as shown in the Application and on the App Store at that time.
- Renewal is Apple's process, not Ours. If a payment fails, Apple may retry it and may suspend or cancel the subscription in accordance with its own rules.
You are subscribing to a service that renews on its own. If You do not want it to renew, cancel — see the next Section.
4. How to Cancel
Subscriptions are managed by You, in the Store account that bought them, and auto-renewal can be turned off there at any time after purchase. On an Apple device that is Your Apple Account settings; on an Android device it is Payments and subscriptions in the Google Play app:
Settings → tap Your name at the top → Subscriptions → Roosta → Cancel Subscription. You can also manage it at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
Deleting the Application does not cancel Your subscription and does not stop it renewing. Neither does turning off Your alarms, nor writing to Us. Cancellation happens in Your Store account settings — Apple's or Google's — and nowhere else. We have no ability to cancel a subscription on Your behalf.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period You have already paid for: You keep full access until that period expires, and no partial refund arises from cancelling early. You may re-subscribe at any time.
On an Apple device, if You turned on the app-deletion guard, iOS will not let You delete Roosta — or any other app — until You switch the guard off inside the Application or withdraw Screen Time authorization in the Settings application. That is a device restriction rather than anything to do with billing, and it never prevents You cancelling: the Apple Account settings above are reachable regardless.
5. Price, Currency, Taxes, and Price Changes
The price of each plan is shown in the Application, in Your local currency where Apple supports it, before You confirm the purchase. Prices include VAT, sales tax, or other applicable taxes where the law requires it and Apple collects them on Our behalf. Where Apple does not collect a tax, You are responsible for any tax due in Your jurisdiction. Apple may adjust the displayed price for currency conversion, regulatory change, or platform fees; those adjustments are Apple's and not Ours.
We may change the price of either plan. If We change the price of a subscription You already hold, Apple's rules apply: You are notified in advance, and where those rules require it, the increase does not take effect for You unless You agree to it — if You do not agree, the subscription simply does not renew at the new price. You can always avoid a price change by cancelling before the next renewal.
Introductory offers, promotional offers, and offer codes are subject to Apple's eligibility rules and to any additional terms shown with the offer. They apply to the first period only unless the offer says otherwise, after which the standard price applies.
6. Changing Plan
You can move between the weekly and yearly plans at any time in Your Apple Account subscription settings. Apple handles the change and its proration: moving to a longer or more expensive plan generally takes effect immediately with a credit for the unused remainder, and moving to a shorter or cheaper one generally takes effect at the end of the current period. The exact treatment is Apple's, not Ours, and switching plans during a free trial ends the trial and forfeits its unused portion.
7. How the Purchase Works, and Restoring It
The subscription is sold through the Store's own in-app purchase system: Apple's, subject to Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions, or Google's, subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. That Store is the merchant of record. We never receive or store Your payment card details, billing address, or Store account credentials, as set out in Our Privacy Policy. Your entitlement is verified against the Store's own signed record, through RevenueCat acting on Our behalf. A Roosta account is optional and has nothing to do with it: a Subscription belongs to Your Apple or Google Account, so it is restored by signing in to that and using the restore option — never by signing in to Roosta.
The subscription is attached to the Store account that bought it, not to a particular phone. If You reinstall the Application, replace Your Device, or set up a new one, sign in to that same Apple Account or Google Account and use the restore option in the Application; Your subscription is reinstated at no further cost. You may use it on other devices signed in to that account, in accordance with that Store's rules.
A subscription does not cross between the two stores. One bought from Apple cannot be restored on an Android phone, and one bought from Google Play cannot be restored on an iPhone — neither store can see the other's purchases, and We cannot bridge them. A Roosta account carries Your alarms and Your streak between phones; it does not carry Your subscription. If You change platform, cancel where You bought and subscribe again on the new one.
Whether the subscription can be shared with a family is determined by the Store — Apple's Family Sharing rules, or Google Play's family library rules — and by the setting on the listing, which We may change for future purchasers. Where sharing is enabled, a family member's access ends when they leave the family group or when the subscription ends.
Restoring restores the entitlement only. It does not restore Your alarms, wake-up history, or settings, which live solely on Your Device and are gone once the Application is deleted — please see Section 12 of the Terms of Service. If restore does not work, write to Us at roosta@novapps.dev before subscribing again, so that You are not billed twice.
8. Refunds
Billing is handled entirely by the Store, and refunds are therefore requested from the Store rather than from Us. We cannot issue, approve, or refuse a refund ourselves. If You bought from Apple, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Apple's refund support. If You bought from Google Play, request one through Google Play’s refund process.
We would rather fix the problem than have You ask for Your money back — if something is wrong, please write to Us first at roosta@novapps.dev.
EU and EEA consumers — right of withdrawal. Under the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) You normally have 14 days from the conclusion of a contract for digital content bought online to withdraw from it. Where You ask for access to be made available immediately and acknowledge that You lose the right of withdrawal once supply has begun, that right ends at the moment access is delivered — which, for an in-app subscription, is effectively at once. If access has not been delivered to You, You may withdraw within 14 days by contacting Us or by using Apple's refund process. Nothing in this Section affects Your separate statutory remedies where the Application is defective or does not match its description, nor Your right to cancel a renewal at any time under Section 4.
Everyone else. Except where applicable law or Apple's own policies provide otherwise, amounts already charged are non-refundable, and cancelling mid-period does not produce a partial refund.
9. If Your Subscription Ends
When a subscription lapses — because You cancelled, or because a payment failed — the Application stops working at the end of the paid period. Concretely:
- Alarms stop. Scheduled alarms are no longer maintained and will not ring. Do not allow Your subscription to lapse while relying on Roosta to wake You; and in any case, see Section 4 of the Terms of Service — Roosta must never be Your only alarm for anything that matters.
- Bedtime reminders and app blocking stop. Any Screen Time shield is lifted and the night schedule is withdrawn. If You had turned on the app-deletion guard, switch it off before You let the subscription lapse; otherwise You may need to withdraw Screen Time authorization in the Settings application to lift it.
- Your data stays where it is. We delete nothing. Your alarms, history and settings remain on Your Device, untouched, and are there again if You re-subscribe. Your Streak is computed from those records, so a gap in the mornings You were not subscribed for is a real gap in the record, not something We can adjust.
- Deleting the Application still deletes all of it, permanently. A lapsed subscription is not a backup.
10. What the Subscription Includes Over Time
A subscription buys access to the Application as it exists during Your subscription period, including updates released in that time. We may add features, and We may modify or retire individual features — for example where a change to iOS or to Android makes a Mission unworkable, as the Terms of Service describe.
We will not put an existing feature behind a further payment on top of Your subscription, and We will not reduce what a subscription provides in a way that leaves You with materially less than You are paying for. If We ever did materially reduce it, You would be able to cancel before Your next renewal, and Your statutory rights as a consumer would be unaffected.
11. If the Application Is Discontinued
If We stopped publishing or supporting the Application, We would stop selling new subscriptions and would use reasonable efforts to give existing subscribers advance notice. Because the Application runs entirely on Your Device and needs no service of Ours, an installed copy would generally go on working for the remainder of a paid period, though it would receive no further updates and a future version of iOS or Android could eventually stop running it. This is set out more fully in Section 19 of the Terms of Service. Any refund question arising from a withdrawal of the Application would be handled under Apple's policies and Your mandatory statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Changes to These Subscription Terms
We may update these Subscription Terms. Material changes will be notified in the Application or on this page before they take effect, and the effective date above will be revised. A change never applies retroactively to a period already paid for, and a change to price is governed by Section 5.
